Volkswagen is expected to reveal its ID 2 urban electric car in an event on 15 March, in which the brand will detail its new design language and future plans. However, it's highly unlikely VW will unveil the production version. After all, a test mule using a shortened ID.3 body was spotted less than a month ago.

Autocar sources have also confirmed that the Volkswagen ID 2 will be the first VW based on the MEB-Plus platform – an updated version of today’s widely used MEB electric car structure that features new LFP (lithium iron phosphate) prismatic battery cells and charging speeds of up to 200kW, among other developments.

Volkswagen is aiming for a £20,000 - £28,000 price for it. Originally it was hoped to be sub- £20,000 but with recent price increases on raw materials it is unlikely to hit this target price.

Scheduled for March 15 at 6:20 pm CET (12:20 pm EST), the livestream will be available on LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter, with Volkswagen starting the hashtag #VWforthepeople so that people can get updates on the event.

In a post on LinkedIn, Volkswagen Passenger Cars offered more details about the event, noting that CEO Thomas Schaefer, design boss Andreas Mindt and other execs will
"show you specifically how we'll be positioning Volkswagen for the years ahead."
The next phrase was the most suggestive.
"We'll be presenting a car that not only gives a specific preview of a new electric model from the Volkswagen brand but also introduces the new design language for our future models."
